The British Furniture Association (BFA) has published its UK Furniture Market Review, a detailed report which offers key insights into market trends based on Government statistics.
BFA analysed data collected by the Office for National Statistics and HMRC as well as looking at the average unit price of UK-manufactured products.
The report found that, overall, sectors generally covered by BFA membership have maintained position, with 62 per cent of domestic market share being UK-made in terms of value. In 2019, the proportion was 65 per cent.
BFA MD Phil Spademan said: “The UK Furniture Market Review is one of several industry reports that offers BFA members a detailed view of trends in the market.
“The latest report shows that UK manufactured sales as a percentage of UK net supply in the wooden upholstery seat market has dropped by over 20 percentage points over the last 10 years, while wooden kitchen furniture still commands 89 per cent of the UK market and is by far the largest furniture sector, accounting for almost half of all general furniture sales in terms of value.
“With data on a variety of markets, from spring mattresses to wooden office furniture, the report is a useful tool for furniture manufacturers and retailers.”
Alongside its expert evaluation of government data, the BFA also regularly surveys its members on a number of subjects, producing reporting and analysis that helps businesses identify long-term patterns in sales, labour costs and material prices, and sets a data-driven baseline for forecasting.
Phil Spademan added: “While the reporting we undertake is a useful tool for our members in aiding decision-making, it also feeds into our work as a trade body, providing us with data that supports our lobbying activities on behalf of BFA membership.”
